Meet the Jury
Chad Saunders is currently the Director of Operations and Special Projects at the National Music Centre, overseeing office administration, building operations (security, janitorial, building ops), the volunteer program, and numerous other activities that are part of NMC’s operations.
Matt Blais is a songwriter, recording artist, and poet with over a decade of experience in music. His three full-length albums, multiple singles, and more than 1000 live performances, have charmed and inspired audiences across Canada and internationally.
Matt is the current Calgary Songwriter in Residence through the Public Library, and his accolades include winner of the Great American Song Contest, and both “Male Artist of the Year” and “Singer-Songwriter of the Year” at the Calgary Music Awards, solidifying his reputation as a musical force both on and off the stage.
Stephanie Hutchinson is the Vice President and co-founder of JUNO Award-winning independent label Chronograph Records. With 15 years’ experience in the music industry, her skillset is comprised of label operations, artist management, grant writing, public relations, marketing strategy and execution, booking, finance and business development. She has worked with artists such as Laila Biali, Poor Nameless Boy, PEAR, 100 mile house, as well as a jazz roster of 25+ artists. She also runs the Presenting portfolio at Arts Commons, Canada’s third largest arts centre, and is the Program Director and Producer for the YYC Music Awards
Scott Morin is a veteran in the Canadian Music Business, having run the day-to day marketing, sales and A&R for Universal Music’s Classics and Jazz Division for nearly a decade. He is also a respected artist with over 20 years as a professional jazz saxophonist who has successfully bridged the language of music and marketing to build brand awareness and artist recognition throughout his career. Scott has produced three Juno Award winning albums.
Joanna Borromeo is a treasure in Calgary's soul/jazz music scene. Her music has topped numerous R&B/Soul and Jazz radio charts across Canada and has earned her two major award nominations. In 2013, Joanna was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award for Best Soul/R&B Album of the Year. In 2014, Joanna was nominated for a Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Her music has also landed her opportunities to perform in some of California’s most significant music venues for jazz, hip hop, R&B, and soul, including The Blue Whale in LA and Yoshi’s in San Francisco. Currently, Joanna runs her own music teaching business and maintains a regular performing schedule as a singer-pianist for special events.
