As the clock ticked closer to midnight on July 20, entries for Music Mile’s first ever songwriting contest kept dinging in our inbox. Final tally: 29 artists, 36 songs. Their challenge? To capture the spirit of Music Mile in a song that evokes a sense of place and belonging.
The stellar jury – Juno-nominated artist Joanna Borromeo, Chronograph Records’ Stephanie Hutchinson, Calgary Public Library’s Songwriter in Residence Matt Blais, and music producer Scott Morin - know what makes a great song. It was the song, not the performance, that was being judged.
